Japanese Pears

Japanese pears are widely grown across Fukushima Prefecture, particularly in the Coastal Region along the Pacific Ocean and in the Central Region with its western views of the Azuma-Adatara mountains and the rest of the Ou Mountain Range. All of these areas share a warm climate, abundant water and just the right soil conditions, making them perfect environments for growing Japanese pears. Of particular note is the Sasakino-Kayaba district, located on the outskirts of Fukushima City in the foothills of the Azuma mountains, as it has been growing Kayaba pears for over a hundred years. The area experiences the significant temperature swings and well-drained soil that allow Japanese pears to thrive. Farming techniques have been passed down here for generations, preserving traditional flavours.
